Webinar Overview:

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has many revised and new regulations in the hospital CoPs regarding the board and medical staff sections especially for hospital systems. CMS issued 38 pages of changes that went into effect September 26, 2014.

One big surprise was the decision by CMS to allow a hospital system to share a medical staff which CMS refers to as a unified and integrated medical staff. CMS reiterated that there is no requirement to have a physician on the board but instead devised another system to ensure good communication and input from the Medical Staff and this will be covered in detail along with all of its intricate requirements. The board and Medical Staff sections will be discussed in detail.

CMS states that these will save healthcare providers $660 million annually and over 3.2 billion dollars in five years. These were written to reduce the regulatory burden placed on hospitals.
